Abstract

This study examined how recreation specialization, leisure constraints, and continuous participation intention among middle-aged leisure sports participants influence expected health benefits on old age. Data were collected from 300 individuals aged 40–59 through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression to test direct effects, mediating effects, and sequential mediating effects. Results showed that higher recreation specialization reduced leisure constraints and enhanced both continuous participation intention and expected health benefits. Leisure constraints and participation intention partially mediated the relationship between recreation specialization and expected health benefits. A sequential mediating effect was also identified in the pathway of recreation specialization → leisure constraints → continuous participation intention → expected health benefits. These findings suggest that enhancing specialization and reducing leisure constraints are essential for sustaining leisure sports participation on middle age, contributing to better health and successful aging.
