Abstract

This study aimed to identify ecological factors influencing sports participation behavior among office workers, focusing on exercise identity, social support, organizational culture, and facility accessibility. Data were collected from 389 office workers employed at Company H in Seoul and Company N in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Given the characteristics of sports participation behavior, a two-part model was employed. Participation versus non-participation in sports was analyzed using binary logistic regression, while weekly sports participation time among participants (n = 271) was examined using multiple linear regression analysis. The results were as follows. First, exercise identity, social support, and facility accessibility had significant positive effects on the likelihood of sports participation, with exercise identity showing the strongest effect. Second, exercise identity, social support, and facility accessibility also had significant positive effects on weekly sports participation time among participants, with exercise identity again demonstrating the strongest influence. In contrast, organizational culture had no significant effect on either the likelihood of sports participation or weekly sports participation time. These findings suggest that enhancing exercise identity, social support, and facility accessibility is important for promoting sports participation among office workers. In particular, tailored support strategies are needed to encourage non-participants to engage in sports and to help existing participants increase the amount of time they devote to sports participation.
