Abstract

This study was conducted to understand the reality of acculturation in the life experience of transnational split families and to improve their subjective well-being. This study conducted a survey on transnational split families residing in the United States, and 161 valid data were used for the analyses. Frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, and t-test were performed using SPSS 27.0 version. The findings were as follows. First, it was found that the longer the separation period of the transnational split families, the more subjective well-being. Second, leisure hour spent with Americans moderated the relationship between the separation period and subjective well-being. Third, in the group with a separation period of 5 years or more, the group with more leisure hours with Americans showed higher subjective well-being than the group with less leisure hours. Unlike the beginning when transnational split families appeared in the early days, negative perceptions about transnational split families and difficulties in acculturation are being alleviated with the progress of informatization and globalization. Nevertheless, the transnational split families can feel a temporary imbalance in terms of human life. Finding balance in imbalance is not easy. Therefore, it is necessary to try to provide a more effective answer that affects the emotional balance of transnational split families.
