Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the perception of restorative environment and place attachment at Han River Park. The theoretical framework for this research is Attention Restoration Theory(ART) initially suggested by Kaplan and his colleagues. We collected the data at the park and finally yielded 633 surveys from the visitors. We performed the correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and path analysis using SPSS 23.0 and Lisrel 8.70. The results showed that a) compatibility positively predicted place identity, b) coherence and compatibility positively influenced place dependence, c) compatibility positively influenced affective attachment, and d) fascination and being away positively predicted social bonding. Among the dimensions of the perception of restorative environment, compatibility was most distinctive predictor of place attachment. Relied on the results suggested by this study, managers and practitioners could make a visitor-oriented management decision to improve the restorative quality of Han River Park.
