기러기 엄마의 교회 여가 활동을 통한 미국문화 적응에 관한 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to understand the hardships of separated families by analyzing adjustment of Kirogi Mothers participating in church leisure activity. Phenomenological approach, a qualitative methods, were employed for the analysis. Because phenomenological method asks hermeneutic questions in order to understand and uncover hidden meanings of social phenomena, it is suitable to look at Kirogi Mothers experience of church leisure and understand its effect on adapting separated life. The researcher extracted themes from the in-depth interview data and construct relationships between the themes. As a result, two main themes emerged from Kirogi Mothers acculturation in the United States through church leisure activity. The first main theme was church leisure activity and consists of three sub-themes, which are participation motivation, passive participation, and active participation. The second main theme was acculturation to the U.S. and consists of sub-themes such as relationship with the spouse, relationship with children, and self-realization/self-actualization. The result suggests that church leisure activity have a considerable impact on Kirogi Mothers acculturation process in the U.S. and it also contributes to relationship with their spouse and children along with self-realization and self-actualization.
